STARTING A NEW JOURNEY

Welcome to the first issue of the OpenStep Journal. This new magazine presents ideas for taking advantage of all the benefits that the OpenStep standard has to offer.

The OpenStep Journal addresses a variety of development topics. It provides overviews of the framework architectures, guidance in their intended use, and details about particular tools. It includes design guidance, such as object-oriented application design and user interface design. And it lists programming tools and resources available from NeXT and elsewhere.

In addition, the journal addresses a variety of system administration topics. It describes how OpenStep and NEXTSTEP systems and networks operate, giving details beyond what's in the documentation. It provides guidelines for configuring PCs, managing networks and users, ensuring security, and generally making things work. It includes troubleshooting and performance tuning techniques, and it regularly features tools that can make managing systems easier.

The specific content of each issue is chosen in response to reader requests, questions frequently asked of SupportLine, and documentation requirements. As much as possible, issues are constructed around themes, focusing attention on a particular subject area and covering it
in depth.
